2020 Walleye Release

Walleye Stocking

The MLA has released 1.2 million walleye fingerlings since 1998.

IMPROVING MINNEWASKA’S WALLEYE POPULATION
In the fall of 2022 the Minnewaska Lake Association (MLA) once again stocked another 40,000 fingerling walleyes. The fish were released at various points around the lake, according to MLA President Mike Stai. The MLA has been releasing these fingerlings every year since 1998. In the fall of 2025 it will be the 27th year the MLA has been stocking six to eight-inch fingerlings into the lake.

Fish stocking on Lake Minnewaska plays an important role in maintaining a healthy, balanced fishery for anglers and the broader ecosystem. Stocking efforts are carefully planned in coordination with fisheries experts to support sustainable populations, enhance recreational fishing opportunities, and complement natural reproduction. By monitoring fish populations and lake conditions, stocking helps ensure species diversity while protecting the long-term health of the lake, benefiting both current users and future generations who enjoy fishing on Lake Minnewaska.
